Cordova’s History and Demographics

Cordova was once known as a farming community called Allentown. It changed its name to Marysville, Dexter and then Cordova in 1900. Residents are diverse by race and gender, with 50% Caucasian and 35% African American. About 52% are females and 48% are males. Compared to other cities in Shelby County and Tennessee, Cordova has a low cost of living, making it one of the most affordable cities in the state.
